Tigray rebels take control of UNESCO site Lalibela: residents say

Aougst 6, 2021 Rebels from Ethiopia’s war-hit Tigray area on Thursday took management of the city of Lalibela, a UNESCO World Heritage Website within the neighboring Amhara area, native residents stated. Lalibela famed for its 12th-century rock-hewn church buildings is named a holy website for hundreds of thousands of Orthodox Christians. The event got here as a senior Amhara official stated the rebels, often known as the Tigray Folks’s Liberation Entrance (TPLF), had been pushing “deep” into Amhara territory and hinted at potential retaliation. “I consider now, sufficient is sufficient. As a result of the TPLF is not any extra in Tigray. TPLF is transferring deep into Amhara territories,”
